My journey of compassion, growth and
understanding
Hello, I’m Deniece, founder of Orchid Room Therapy.
My journey into therapy began through my own experiences of healing, growth and self-discovery.
Like many people, I have my own story. My experiences have shaped who I am, deepened my understanding of life’s challenges and helped me develop the compassion and empathy I bring into my work today.
My own journey led me to explore counselling, where I discovered a passion for understanding people, their stories and the experiences that shape who they are.
I trained for five years in person-centred counselling, achieving my Level 4 qualification. Person-centred therapy deeply resonated with me because of its belief that every person has their own unique experiences, strengths and ability to grow.
I believe that sometimes what people need most is not someone to fix them, but someone who will truly listen, understand and provide a safe space where they can be themselves without judgement.
My experience supporting others
Alongside my counselling training, I have worked in a variety of caring roles, supporting people through different stages of life.
I have supported adults with learning disabilities, worked with young carers through Southend Carers, and spent time supporting people living with dementia and their families.
These experiences taught me the importance of seeing the person beyond their circumstances — recognising their individuality, their strengths and their story.
I later continued my work within end-of-life care at Havens Hospices, supporting individuals and families through some of life’s most vulnerable and emotional moments.
This work has reinforced my belief in the importance of compassion, dignity, presence and human connection.
My Holistic Journey
Alongside my counselling and caring background, I have always had an interest in holistic wellbeing.
My first professional training was over 20 years ago, when I qualified as a Level 3 Beauty Therapist. This gave me an early understanding of the importance of nurturing care, relaxation and the connection between touch and wellbeing.
During my time working in end-of-life care, I also trained as a Level 2 Reiki Healer, which became another way for me to support wellbeing through relaxation, balance and connection.
Over time, all the parts of my journey have come together — counselling, massage, Reiki, caring for others and the lessons I have learned through both love and loss.
Why Orchid Room Therapy was created
Orchid Room Therapy was created from a desire to offer a safe, compassionate space where people feel seen, heard and supported.
I understand that life can bring many challenges — stress, anxiety, grief, change, uncertainty and times when we simply feel overwhelmed.
Whether you are seeking counselling support, a moment of relaxation through holistic therapies, or simply a place where you can pause and reconnect with yourself, my aim is always the same:
To offer a space where you can be yourself, feel understood and move forward at your own pace.
Every step of my journey has shaped the therapist I am today.
What began as a personal journey of healing has become a life dedicated to supporting others through their own journeys of healing, growth and self-discovery. 💛
"people are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don't find myself saying, "Soften the orange a bit on the right-hand corner" I don't try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds"

Reflections on the Journey
“Every person’s journey is unique. Along the way, many people discover new ways of understanding themselves, building confidence, and reconnecting with what feels meaningful.”

Client Testimony
"Just wanted to say a massive thank you to Deniece, I was very worried to open up and talk to anyone about my life and my problems but after a couple of sessions with Deniece I felt so comfortable that I told her everything! It got me out of a very dark place and I managed to find who I actually was again. My advice if if you feel down and you need to talk to someone then give her a call and hopefully you will have the same outcome"

Client Testimony
"Counselling has been about learning to embrace my flaws, overcome my fears, push my comfort boundaries and most importantly, be kind to myself. Love the body I am in and remember to take a break before it's too late and not after the meltdowns happened, and learning to notice when that time is. It's been learning to embrace the people who love me, the people who want to be in my life and let go of those who don't. To not let my anxiety control me. To realise I am stronger than I thought"

Client Testimony
"Deniece i'm so proud to say it! Counselling saved my life! and I wouldn't hesitate to seek help again if I needed. Thank you so much for helping me discover "me" again. I got so lost and so consumed in sadness that I didn't know where to turn next. You helped me find my voice again and gain confidence to use it. I'll be forever grateful. xx"
“Sometimes change begins with something small — a moment of honesty, a new perspective, or simply feeling heard. Little steps can create space for something new to grow.”
