Professional Referrals & Partnerships
Compassionate, accessible counselling within the local community
Orchid Room Therapy is an independent private counselling practice based in Great Wakering, Southend-on-Sea, offering person-centred and trauma-informed counselling to adults and young people aged 12+.
I welcome contact from professionals, organisations and community services looking for a trusted local counselling service to refer or signpost individuals to.
Counselling is available face-to-face from my private practice in Great Wakering and online via Microsoft Teams.
My aim is to provide counselling that is professional and ethical, while remaining warm, human and approachable for the person being referred.

Areas I Can Support
People do not always fit neatly into a particular category or diagnosis. My person-centred approach allows the counselling to be shaped around the individual and what they bring.
I work with a range of experiences, including:
Trauma and difficult childhood experiences
Grief, bereavement and loss
Anxiety, stress and emotional overwhelm
Low self-esteem, confidence and self-worth
Relationship difficulties and boundaries
Life changes and transitions
Emotional regulation
Neurodivergent experiences
Caring responsibilities and carer wellbeing
Feeling stuck, lost or disconnected
Understanding patterns linked to earlier experiences
Where appropriate, counselling may also include gentle exploration of childhood experiences and inner child approaches.
My Therapeutic Approach
I am a Level 4 qualified Person-Centred Counsellor and Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
My work is grounded in the person-centred principles of empathy, authenticity and unconditional positive regard, alongside a trauma-informed understanding of how earlier experiences can continue to influence emotions, relationships, behaviours and a person's sense of self.
I don't approach a client as a diagnosis, a problem or a collection of symptoms.
I meet the person.
My role is to provide a safe and non-judgemental therapeutic relationship where the individual can explore their experiences at their own pace, develop greater understanding and discover what moving forward means for them.
Professional Experience
Alongside my counselling training, I bring more than 20 years of experience in caring and supportive roles.
My professional background has included supporting adults and children with learning disabilities, working with young carers through Southend Carers, supporting people living with dementia and their families, and working within end-of-life and palliative care at Havens Hospices.
These roles have given me experience of supporting people through very different circumstances and stages of life.
They have also reinforced one of the values at the heart of my practice:
Behind every presenting difficulty is an individual with their own history, experiences and story.
Supporting Young People
I offer counselling to young people aged 12 and over.
Adolescence can bring significant emotional, social and developmental change. Young people may be navigating anxiety, relationships, family difficulties, self-esteem, school pressures, neurodivergent experiences, grief, identity, emotional regulation or experiences from their past.
My previous professional experience includes working with young carers and supporting children and young people with learning disabilities.
I aim to provide a space where a young person can talk openly without feeling judged or expected to have all the answers.
Confidentiality, consent, safeguarding and appropriate professional boundaries are central to my work with young people.
Workplace & Employee Counselling
Personal difficulties rarely remain neatly outside the workplace.
Grief, anxiety, relationship difficulties, caring responsibilities, trauma and significant life changes can all affect a person's emotional wellbeing and ability to cope at work.
I welcome enquiries from local employers, small businesses and HR professionals who would like to discuss independent counselling support or signposting for employees.
Where counselling is being funded or arranged by an organisation, appropriate arrangements regarding confidentiality, payment and communication would be agreed before counselling begins.
Confidentiality & Professional Practice
I practise in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework and undertake regular professional supervision and continued professional development.
Confidentiality is an important part of the therapeutic relationship. Where a professional or organisation has referred, recommended or funded counselling, clear boundaries regarding confidentiality and any communication with the referring organisation would be established before counselling begins.
Safeguarding responsibilities and the limits of confidentiality are explained clearly and appropriately.
The client's privacy, autonomy and therapeutic relationship remain central to the counselling process.
